How Giving Tree Global turns $1 into 1 Meal

We work with retailers to donate food that would otherwise go to waste. That rescued food is delivered to local soup kitchens, pantries, shelters, and low-income seniors. Bread of Life rescues over 3 million pounds of excess edible food per year. Our generous supporters help cover the cost of picking up, sorting, storing, and transporting that food to reach our neighbors. 

The Cost of a Meal

We calculate the cost of a meal by dividing the total pounds of donated food by the cost to keep Bread of Life  running smoothly and getting that food where it needs to go. Our operating expenses include collecting, storing, and transporting food to our food recipients. Each meal is roughly 1.2 pounds, giving us our meal per dollar figure.

Today, inflation impacts every aspect of our operation, including food prices, transportation, storage, and fuel. We face unprecedented challenges in helping our neighbors to survive and thrive.
