Our Mission to the Most Vulnerable: Seniors
At Bread of Life our idea of success is when someone doesn’t need us anymore. No one should be constantly food insecure and have to visit a pantry to supplement their food needs. Part of our mission is to help our recipients connect with jobs, affordable housing, and other services so that they can become independent and have a better quality of life.
Our mission is to share the love of God with those in need, especially the most vulnerable members of our community. One of the most vulnerable groups, unfortunately, is senior citizens.
For seniors, there is no hope apart from a helping hand to better their lives and ensure they have enough to eat. Many older adults live on fixed incomes, making it increasingly difficult to keep up with rising costs for groceries, housing, and other necessities. Too often, they are forced to make impossible choices between paying bills, purchasing medications, and putting healthy food on the table.
At Bread of Life, we are committed to serving our senior community because we believe no one should have to face hunger alone. Through our grocery deliveries and other outreach efforts, we strive to provide not only nutritious food but also encouragement, compassion, and hope.
We want them to know: You are not forgotten. You are seen, you are valued, and you matter. If you are struggling, we want to help. Reaching out for support is a sign of strength, and our community is here to walk alongside you. Together, we can ensure that our seniors are cared for with the dignity, respect, and love they deserve.
Delivering More Than Groceries: Supporting Seniors in Port Chester
Thanks to a grant from The Youth Grantmaking Board from Christ's Church for the Bread of Life Senior program, we will be providing weekly grocery deliveries to approximately 130 low-income seniors living in a senior housing facility in Port Chester, helping ensure they have reliable access to nutritious food.
Many of these residents live on fixed incomes and face the challenge of keeping up with rising food costs. To help meet their needs, Bread of Life delivers a combination of fresh foods from its food rescue program and non-perishable grocery items, providing well-rounded, nutritious options that help reduce food insecurity.
Groceries are delivered directly to the residents' building, making it easier for seniors to receive healthy food without the burden of transportation or mobility challenges.
The program offers more than just food. Each delivery is an opportunity for Bread of Life volunteers to provide encouragement, companionship, and a caring presence to seniors who may be isolated or facing difficult circumstances. These regular visits foster meaningful connections and remind residents that they are valued members of the community.

Some of you have believed in Bread of Life before even we fully knew what the organization would become. You saw the potential for something greater and chose to invest in a vision that was just beginning. That is what faith looks like- saying "yes" before every detail is known. It is choosing to believe that a small act of generosity today can become something far greater tomorrow.
